The Notting Hill of the North”
… but is it really? ![]()
A recent piece from the Manchester Evening News (credit to them for this one) is calling Didsbury exactly that … the Notting Hill of the North” and it’s sparked a lot of conversation.
The article dives into why this particular pocket of Manchester has become so desirable … and honestly, it ticks a lot of boxes
Beautiful period homes and leafy streets
A thriving independent scene, especially along Burton Road
Bars, restaurants and cafés that give it that “village” feel
Easy access into the city centre
A lifestyle people actively choose, not just somewhere they end up
It’s that same story Im seeing across a lot of the market right now … people aren’t just chasing property anymore, they’re chasing lifestyle ![]()
And when an area gets labelled like this, compared to somewhere like Notting Hill, you can guarantee demand (and prices) aren’t far behind ![]()
But here’s the reality …
As areas become more desirable, affordability gets tighter. What was once accessible slowly becomes out of reach for many and we start to see that shift in who can actually afford to live there.
It’s happening across Greater Manchester, not just Didsbury.
From a property perspective, this kind of spotlight only pushes demand further.
For landlords, it shows where tenants want to be. For buyers, it shows where competition is only going one way.
So what do you think … is Didsbury really the “Notting Hill of the North”, or is that just a headline grabbing a bit too hard?
